Seattle Job Search: Online Employment Sites
A note from Janet Scarborough Civitelli: It has become popular to cite statistics about the ineffectiveness of online job searching, but so many of my clients have found jobs via Web sites, I'm still a fan. Our favorite national job search Web site is Indeed.com. Online job search works well for those persons who have a solid track record of accomplishments and who are not seeking to change careers. Because online job search can be a lonely and frustrating experience, I recommend setting a limit to how many weekly hours are spent searching for openings in this way. The remainder of the time should be spent in other more active job search strategies, ones via which the competition for openings is not so keen (after all, hunting for job openings via the Web is so easy to do, each opening generates hundreds to thousands of responses). In addition to using these resources to search for openings, don't forget to search the job banks of local professional associations . Nonprofit job search sites can be found here . Also check the classified sections of local newspapers - the sites are listed here. Three of the best for job search are the Sunday Seattle Times / Post Intelligencer, the Puget Sound Business Journal, and the Seattle Weekly. If you want to search employer job listings directly, one source for Seattle area or Washington state companies with Web sites can be viewed here: InfoAdvantage E-Business Resources
